Here is our Arrival & Dismissal Plan to ensure students are entering and exiting the building in the most safe and efficient way. Please look at the graphics above and see where your student will be entering to prepare for the mornings. And to be upfront, parking is difficult. So please make sure you are keeping all our kids safe during morning arrival. Students in our Autism Program and Substantially Separate classrooms are to arrive and dismiss at the main office. A staff member will be present at the entrance to meet the parent and call for a faculty member to walk your student to class.
Dismissal is at 2:25 pm. Pre-K will be dismissed by their teachers from each classroom on Elm Street. All other walkers & parent pick up will be dismissed on the corner of Elm St & Cottage St. Walkers are limited to students in grades 4&5 who are given permission to walk home from school by themselves. Please let us know if you have any questions. You can call the school at (508) 997-4511 ext. 43500 or 43551. Thank you!

Friendly Reminders for Parents/Guardians from NBPS Health Services

Please keep your child home from school and contact your school nurse if:

  • Your child or someone in the household is being tested or has tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Your child or someone in the household has been identified as a close contact to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. A close contact is defined as being within 6 feet of an individual for at least 15 minutes over 24 hours while the person was infectious. The infectious period begins two days before symptoms.

  • Your child or someone in the household is ill with any COVID-like symptoms (fever 100.0 or higher, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches, fatigue, headache, new loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, nasal congestion, runny nose).

Travel: To High or Low Risk Areas

Your child or someone in the household has traveled outside of Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts travel advisory requires ALL individuals entering Massachusetts, including residents, to quarantine for ten days or produce a negative PCR COVID-19 test result that has been administered up to 72-hours before your arrival in Massachusetts. If not obtained before entry to Massachusetts, testing may be completed after arrival. However, all such arriving travelers must immediately begin the 10-day quarantine until a negative test result has been received.

**If the adult has received their vaccines, they do not need to quarantine, nor does the child under ten. However, Children older than ten must be tested or quarantine.

For children under 10, traveling with an adult from their household, testing is not required. Children under ten should use the same quarantine requirement and testing options completed by the household adult they accompanied for travel.

Examples:
If the accompanying adult chooses to quarantine, the child must quarantine. If the accompanying adult decides to obtain a test, the child and adult must quarantine until the adult’s negative test result is received.

However, you need to have received both doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines and be greater than 14 days since the 2nd dose. You would follow the same guidelines if you received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. You will also need to provide proof of vaccination.

Message from The Principal

Dear Families,
On behalf of our faculty and staff, I welcome you to Carney Academy. I am excited to begin my first year as your new principal, and ensure that the social, emotional, cultural, and academic needs of Carney students remain of the utmost importance.
My core belief is that all students, no matter how they look or where they are from, deserve educators that have high expectations in them. Educators that believe in their innate ability to achieve academic success and to be valuable contributors to our future society. I'm grateful today that I had educators in my life that represented these beliefs when I was a struggling student, and my mission and dream is to be that representation for all of the children and families that I serve.
As I enter my first year as principal, I hope to create and further strengthen family and community partnerships as we are here to grow our students together.  I look forward to supporting our students with you, and may we all have a healthy, safe and most importantly fun school year.
Sincerely,
Principal McKoy
